Google Analytics Blog: More Enterprise-Class Features Added To Google Analytics

Google has added some great new features to it's Analytics offerings. The list is impressive and rather than nail down ever feature here at social Network Mash, I've included the opening excerpt below with the article link and video links. This is going to greatly improve my analysis intelligence, and as a girl who enjoys the visual I'm particularly into the multi-dimensional visuals.

Over the past year, our team has been gathering a feature wish list from you, our customers. We also asked experts in the web analytics industry and listened to customers of other analytics tools to find out what additional functionality they would like to see added to Google Analytics to make it as powerful, flexible, and useful as a web analytics tool can be.

Today at the eMetrics Summit in Washington, D.C., after months of development and testing, Avinash Kaushik, our Analytics Evangelist, unveiled the new functionalities that represent a major upgrade to Google Analytics. With these features, gradually being released in beta in all accounts, you'll gain much richer insights into your website traffic, and it'll be even easier to discover, create, and access the metrics important to you.

They are: Advanced Segmentation, Custom Reports, a data export API (private beta), integrated reporting for AdSense publishers (private beta), multi-dimensional data visualizations called "Motion Charts," and an updated user and administrative interface.

These are features that experts and enterprise-level customers demand, and they will be available and easy to use in your Google Analytics reports. The Coprporate Social Networking List of Companies

Former Forrester analyst Peter Kim provides a list of what 100+ marketers are doing in the social media realm.  The tactics employed range from online video, wikis, microblogging, and social networks to podcasting, photosharing, widgets and more.

A quick look at the list reveals a diverse array of brands using social media in one form or another, some of which include:

  • liquor brand Absolut Vodka (online video)
  • steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal (virtual worlds)
  • electronics retailer Best Buy (CMO blogs and microblogs)
  • Gourmet magazine (Facebook fan page)

Blogging Has Become Central to Media Ecosystem

Bloggers have become mainstream media, creating almost one million posts per day, and over half of bloggers believe that blogs are going to be the primary source of news, information and knowledge in the next five years, according to Technorati’s 2008 State
of the Blogosphere Report, MarketingCharts writes.

Technorati’s report was released over the course of a work week, covered five broad topic areas relating to the state of blogging: Who bloggers are, how they blog, blogging for profit and brands in the blogosphere.

Though there is no widespread agreement on the size of the blogosphere, 133 million blog records have been indexed by Technorati since 2002. This growing number- and the blurring of lines between blogs and mainstream media - indicate that blogs have hit the mainstream, and now have representation in top-10 website lists across all key categories.

Bloggers are important to watch, Technorati said, because as they are often the first ones to use new web applications and are highly influential in speeding adoption.

Google Launches Content Central Today

Google has launched a great new landing page for content submission that walks you through the primary content distribution points of Google and how to use them and submit your sites and content. While this might seem simplistic to some users, for newbies or those who are not as familiar with Google as techies like me are, it is a priceless feature.

Inside Google Book Search: Book Search everywhere with new partnerships and tools

Today, we're taking a big step towards bringing more books, across more sites, to more people online.

We're launching a set of free tools that allow retailers, publishers, and anyone with a web site to embed books from the Google Book Search index. We are also providing new ways for these sites to display full-text search results from Book Search, and even integrate with social features such as ratings, reviews, and readers' book collections. By providing tools that help sites connect readers with books in new and interesting ways, we hope publishers and authors will find even wider audiences for their works.

What does this mean for readers? Well, since we've partnered with a number of booksellers to enable preview functionality for their sites, one way you may come across this feature is by simply shopping online for books. For example, suppose you've turned to the Books-A-Million site to look for a book on the history of your hometown (say, Mountain View, California). When you see a book that looks promising, you can now click on "Google Preview" to browse through the book just as you might in the physical store, without ever having to leave Books-A-Million's website.

This Google Preview feature is now live on retailer sites around the globe, from Books-A-Million to Blackwell Bookshop and The Book Depository in the UK, A1Books in India, Librería Norma in Colombia, Van Stockum in the Netherlands, and Livraria Cultura in Brazil. Over the coming weeks, this functionality will roll out to even more booksellers, including Borders.com, Buy.com, and Powell's Books.

Beyond these retailer partnerships, we've also worked with a wide array of sites and organizations to bring Book Search functionality to their users:
Of course, we know that even more sites will also want to work with the Book Search index in ways we can't even imagine. That's why we've made these tools an open set of APIs, which anyone can use to build applications drawing on the unique search results and preview capabilities provided by Book Search. Ultimately, we believe that these tools and partnerships further our quest to make books more discoverable on the Web, from your Google search results to your favorite bookstores, publisher and author websites, online library catalogues, and social networks.
